The Executive Committee may:

- make final decisions at the Committee level within its mandate where City of Calgary policy exists;

- accept Briefings;

- refer reports to Administration;

- refer reports to Council or a Council Committee;

- refer reports to Council for policy direction or policy review;

- create and be responsible for sub-committees and approve their terms of reference;

- directing Notices of Motion to Council; and 

- refer reports to Council regarding the recruitment and appointment of the City Manager and provide performance evaluations of the City Manager as required by section 205.1 of the MGA.

The Executive Committee has the following mandate:

- finance and budgeting issues;

- corporate planning;

- items from the Integrity and Ethics Office;

- items related to People, Innovation, and Collaboration;

- recommending the naming of City owned facilities;

- economic Development including the Downtown Strategy; and 

- local and Business economy.
